Release notes

Every update to Boxie POS, version by version.

3.4.10

NewAugust 2026
  • A tap meant for the keyboard stays on the keyboard: typing into the refund dialog no longer closes it or dismisses the keyboard, and the hide-keyboard button moved clear of the profile switcher it used to trigger.
  • The kitchen hears about refunds: a refunded item shows struck through with a REFUNDED tag on the kitchen display, live; a fully refunded order cancels its un-started ticket with a notice. Finished tickets never change.
  • The kitchen display reads in the dark — no more white-on-white tickets on dark-mode devices.
  • A register left alone half a day signs itself out. After 12 hours untouched, the till (and Boxie POS Lite) returns to the login screen — never during a working day.
  • The account switcher shows faces or the door: tap your chip and enter your PIN, or sign out. “Not listed?” reveals manual entry.
  • Caps Lock and accents on the till keyboard: double-tap Shift to lock capitals; hold a letter for accents, hold a number for symbols.
  • Print Options gains a footer gap: choose 0–9 blank lines between the totals and the receipt footer, on every print path.
  • The menu rearrange button is always visible to owners and managers.
  • Two inherited security fixes: file paths on the till’s own servers are contained against traversal, and the email check can no longer be stalled by a crafted address.

3.4.9

August 2026
  • Signing out means leaving. Signing out at the identity bar of the account you logged in with now ends the session and returns to the login screen — no signed-in session lingers behind it, and the till’s server refuses management changes for anyone the screen would refuse.
  • A paired kitchen display stays paired. Pairing no longer forgets itself on reload; the code entry is always on screen, a kitchen station can be created right where you pair, and enabling the display seeds one so tickets flow immediately. The pairing code accepts ABC-DEF with or without the dash.
  • A password on the kitchen wall becomes a screen credential. Signing in with a password on the display converts it into the same narrow, station-bound credential the code flow makes — your password never stays on the wall. The password field gained a show/hide toggle, too.
  • Kitchen displays are manageable from the till: reassign a screen to another station, tell it to resync, and read an honest status with its pairing date.
  • Profile chips you can tell apart: a bigger avatar with the name and staff ID on their own rows — nothing identifying gets cut off.
  • Customers can be retired by owners and managers; their name stays on their order history, and re-adding the same phone number brings them back.
  • Opening the kitchen display from the till stays inside BoxiePOS instead of launching the system browser, and the kitchen screen now wears the Boxie mark.

3.4.8

August 2026
  • Sign in by tapping your face: the staff login shows profile chips — an initials avatar and a short name. Tap yours, enter your PIN, done. (Listed under 3.4.7 ahead of time; it arrives in this update.)
  • Logging in is proving who you are. Owners and managers are no longer asked to “sign on” again after typing their password, and an owner without a PIN is never locked out of their own dashboard. Staff sign-on, sign-off and the idle timeout still guard an unattended till exactly as before.
  • Updates no longer interrupt. The till comes back signed in where you left it, on a screen your role can open — no more errors after an update finishes.
  • Staff IDs stop caring about capital letters: “CC01” and “cc01” are the same person, and duplicates differing only in case can’t be created.
  • The Windows touch keyboard truly stands down: the register’s own keyboard now claims a field before Windows can flash its keyboard on the first tap.
  • The About page answers a support call: app version, register name and register ID, right in Settings.
  • BoxiePOS can be closed from Settings by an owner or manager — PIN-protected while kiosk mode is on, and recorded in the audit trail.
  • Rearrange your menu at the till: owners and managers can reorder product tiles with simple arrows, exactly like the Cloud app, and the order syncs both ways.

3.4.7

August 2026
  • Staff read the same in the Cloud app: “csh02 — Jane D.” in shifts and activity views, so an audit line and a support call use the same words. (The till half of this arrives with 3.4.8’s profile chips.)
  • Settings show staff only what a shift can use — sections that don’t help the counter no longer appear at all.
  • Refunds are strictly on-shift for staff, with the usual manager approval unchanged on top. The Orders page shows staff their shift’s orders with a clear scope note; history stays with managers.
  • A new keyboard setting stops the Windows touch keyboard from fighting the register’s own — enable it and every field uses the built-in keyboard only.
  • Printing no longer asks to “allow pop-ups” — invoices and receipt reprints print directly.

3.4.6

August 2026
  • Clocking in is one tap. A signed-in staff member — or one signed on at the register — just confirms; no PIN to retype. The first clock-in of a shift opens the drawer in the same step: count your cash, enter the starting float, done.
  • The end of a shift asks, never assumes: extend in one tap or head to clock-out. Nothing closes on its own, and nothing interrupts a sale in progress.
  • Staff see what a shift needs. Settings open for every role — resync with the cloud, test printers, manage the customer display, check updates — with everything else visible read-only. Customer lookup and creation work at the counter, while per-customer spend stays with managers.
  • The login screen carries a support line: version, register name and a short register identifier — the three things a support call starts with, readable even from a locked-out till.
  • A drifted Windows clock now gets nudged straight automatically. Order times were always recorded on cloud time; this keeps the machine itself in step.
  • Pages a role cannot open say so plainly, with a way back — instead of an unexplained error.

3.4.5

August 2026
  • The till respects who is standing at it. When a cashier signs on at a register that was opened under the owner’s account, the screen scopes down: they can sell and manage orders, but the day’s takings, reports, settings and staff management stay out of sight — and the till’s own server refuses that data too. With nobody signed on, selling waits behind a sign-on prompt. Shops that never set up staff IDs and PINs are unaffected.
  • The Customers page can do things now: start an order with the customer already attached, or open their full order history — where paid bills offer invoice printing and PDF export.
  • A held order shows whose tab it is, with the customer’s name beside the table.
  • Customer records carry billing details — address, tax ID, state code and notes — which flow straight onto invoices and into tax handling.

3.4.4

August 2026
  • Kitchen tickets are yours to tune: set the line spacing and choose whether item lines print double height, alongside the other print options.
  • Product tiles on the menu wear their category’s colour, so the grid reads the way your categories do — with photos, and without.
  • Staff sign-in types letters: staff IDs are alphanumeric, and the ID step now brings up the full keyboard while the PIN keeps its number pad.
  • The on-screen keyboard stops covering the field you are typing into, on every page and dialog.
  • Updates you start from the till apply even in kiosk mode.
  • Boxie support can now install updates, adjust lockdown and manage the till’s network reachability remotely — kiosk mode and auto-start are set by support, and your Cloud app shows the state.

3.4.3

August 2026
  • Staff can open the till. The login screen gains a Staff tab — staff ID and PIN, no email, no owner account left running on the counter — with the same lockout protections as the in-register switch.
  • The customer display returns to its idle screen after a sale instead of holding the previous customer’s thank-you until the next order.
  • One keyboard at a time in the staff sign-in, and a physical keyboard works throughout — including the PIN, which previously could not be typed at all.
  • The receipt preview sits in a fixed frame you can zoom and pan, instead of covering the Print Options page.
  • Print fixes: the social media handle no longer prints twice, kitchen tickets stop cutting through the last items, and the address centres on every template. A new Top feed option controls the blank paper before your logo.
  • A menu change made in the Cloud app reaches an open till page within seconds — including a price rolled back in a hurry.

3.4.2

August 2026
  • On shared Windows tills the till’s data now lives machine-wide, so a second Windows account sees the same shop instead of an empty one. Existing installs keep their data; the first account to launch the new build seeds the shared copy.
  • The 3.4.1 Windows installer was never produced — Windows users should install 3.4.2 directly.

3.4.0

August 2026
  • Register shifts: open and close a session, clock staff in and out, and print an X or a Z report that says which it is. Expected cash comes from that session’s own cash lines, so counting the drawer means something.
  • Invoices as real documents — an A4 or Letter PDF that works with no internet, your buyer’s company details pulled from their customer record, invoice numbering you control, and your logo on it.
  • Split a bill between people, choose which payment methods appear at checkout and which one is pre-selected, and add tip presets that show on the customer display.
  • Take card payments on a Stripe Terminal reader, with the trail recorded against the bill. UPI codes on the customer display now carry the amount.
  • Automatic service charge for table service — inside the payable amount, and waivable on any order.
  • QR codes and barcodes on the receipt footer: your website, your social media, a discount code. Both start switched off, and you should test-print before relying on them — not every thermal printer supports them.
  • Flavour options in one tap. Mark an add-on group as a quick option and it appears as chips on the order line — “White meat only”, “Extra spicy” — with any surcharge shown on the chip, so nobody taps it without knowing it costs money.
  • Stock takes in every build. Open a count sheet for the whole shop or one category and type what is on the shelf. You can keep trading while you count: each line remembers what the system believed when you counted it, so a sale made halfway through is not erased. Lines you never reached are left alone rather than zeroed.
  • Retail and salon builds: a shirt in three sizes and two colours is one product with six variants, and tapping it offers the choice instead of adding a guess.
  • Persian, with right-to-left throughout — the till’s seventh language. Morocco and Iran join the country list.
  • Kitchen displays pair once with a code or a scanned QR and stay signed in, instead of being logged in every morning. A bump bar works, and a screen with no camera or keyboard can still be paired.
  • The kitchen reports what it printed. A ticket that never reached a station is recorded and can be retried, instead of vanishing between the order and the pass.
  • Boxie POS Lite prints through your browser or a Bluetooth thermal printer, and WhatsApp is available there as a plan add-on.
  • Fixed: an owner could not approve their own refund, because setup never asked for a PIN — and the message blamed the PIN you typed. Setup now asks, and a till with nobody who can authorise says so.
  • Fixed: on touchscreen tills the on-screen keyboard covered the field you were typing into, and shift closed the dialog.
  • Fixed: receipts now carry the order number as well as the invoice number, so a receipt and the kitchen ticket that made the food can be matched. Line spacing and the feed before the cut are numbers you set, and the blade no longer lands on your footer.
  • Fixed: dropdowns in Settings were white on white in dark mode, and payment methods showed their internal names.
  • Fixed: a kitchen display lost the till when the router changed its address, and a register moved to another business kept the old one’s data until it was wiped by hand.
  • Uninstalling gives the machine back, and asks before deleting your data.

3.3.4

August 2026
  • Boxie POS Lite: a simplified, general-purpose till that runs in the browser — nothing to install, selling minutes after signup. One terminal comes with your cloud storage plan; more terminals and the kitchen display are add-ons.
  • Migration import: bring your menu and customers over from another POS instead of retyping them.
  • Customer GST details: store a customer’s GSTIN and state, and bills charge interstate IGST or in-state CGST+SGST automatically.
  • Four-digit staff PINs sign in properly — creating one worked, but sign-in quietly demanded six digits.
  • The till’s reports bucket days in your store’s timezone, matching the cloud reports.

3.3.3

August 2026
  • Pairing codes: in the Boxie Cloud app, Devices → Add register mints a single-use code — type it into the till and the register links itself to your business. No more hunting device IDs through two apps.
  • Sync now: one button under Settings → Cloud runs a full sync round-trip instead of waiting for the next timer.
  • The register identity card now really shows whether the till is linked to your business — an unclaimed register used to read "Connected" while its reports went nowhere.
  • Problem reports filed before a register was paired now reach your business the moment it pairs, and past ones have been recovered.
  • Cloud reports bucket days and hours in your store’s timezone.
  • The interface highlight across the till and both cloud apps is now the Boxie green.

3.3.2

August 2026
  • Alert history: a bell in the status bar keeps the last hundred errors the till reported, surviving restarts — an error you missed is no longer gone forever.
  • Receipt Content controls under Print Options: choose whether customer details, loyalty points, item notes and tendered/change print, and set the line spacing. Untouched settings print exactly what receipts always showed.
  • On-screen keyboard for touchscreen tills: QWERTY for text, a numeric pad for amounts. It follows whether your hardware reports touch, and the toggle lives under Settings → POS Workflow.
  • Start in full screen works on Windows, and the register window fits 4:3 counter screens.

3.3.0

August 2026
  • Customer WhatsApp replies now arrive at the till, joining the outbound receipts that already worked.
  • The cash drawer opens on cash sales, receipts show tendered and change, and your configured footer message actually prints.
  • The customer display is finished: no staff screens facing the customer, and after payment it shows the amount paid, the change due and your own thank-you message.
  • Payment-method tax rates for Pakistan: where the law charges less for digital payment, the bill is rated by how it was actually settled.
  • Updates now come from downloads.boxiepos.com — registers move to the production update feed automatically.

3.2.0

August 2026
  • Refunds, full or partial. Money can go back out for the first time — returned to the method it came in on, always behind a manager PIN, with restocking optional because a meal sent back is not resaleable.
  • Reports you can actually ask a question of: sales, discounts, refunds, voids, products, payments, staff, taxes and customers, each filterable and groupable. Save the ones you use, or schedule them to arrive without anyone remembering to run them.
  • Staff discounts and customer discounts are now separate figures, so you can see which is costing you what.
  • Stock levels with low and out-of-stock alerts on items limited by quantity.
  • Six languages on the till: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Hindi and Chinese.
  • Tax packs for 46 countries, plus every US state, Canadian province and Pakistani province — so the rate is right for where you actually trade. Brazil is not covered yet; enter your own rate there.
  • Your logo on receipts, the register and the customer display.
  • One login, several businesses: switch between them without signing out.

3.1.0

August 2026
  • Updates now come straight from Boxie. Your registers check in and update themselves — no chasing downloads.
  • Cloud backup: every backup is copied off the till as well as saved locally, so a failed drive is not a lost business.
  • Downloads are tied to your account, so we can support the registers you actually run.
  • Reinstalling or adding a register? Sign in and your installers and activation code are waiting under Downloads.
  • Linux auto-update now works. AppImage installs could never find an update before this release.

Boxie POS Lite & Cloud

The cloud service behind Boxie POS Lite and the Cloud app updates on its own schedule — these arrive for everyone at once, nothing to install.

Cloud 3.4.6

NewAugust 2026
  • Signing out on Boxie POS Lite means leaving, same as the till — no signed-in browser session lingers behind a signed-out staff member, and the service refuses management changes for anyone the screen would refuse.
  • Customers can be retired on Lite by owners and managers, with history preserved.
  • A Lite kitchen display can be reassigned to another station from the Devices page.

Cloud 3.4.5

August 2026
  • Logging in to Lite is proving who you are: owners and managers are no longer asked to sign on again after entering their password, and staff IDs stop caring about capital letters.

Cloud 3.4.4

August 2026
  • Clocking in on Lite is one tap, and the first clock-in of a shift opens the drawer with the starting float in the same step — matching the till.
  • Refunds on Lite are strictly on-shift for staff, with the usual manager approval unchanged on top, and staff see their shift’s orders rather than account history.
  • A fix for shift checks that could wrongly treat clocked-in staff as off-shift on Lite.
  • Refunds now appear in the Cloud app’s Live View — as their own entries and as a badge with the net amount on the refunded sale.
